Message Center

Learn how to use the Message Center to send and manage internal messages between your office team, both job-related and personal.

The Message Center is where you send and read messages between office users in your Workglue account. It has two tabs: Personal Messages for conversations not tied to any job, and Job Messages for conversations attached to a specific opportunity or job.

The Message Center is for office-to-office communication. From the Job Messages tab you can also post to a job's Field Messages, which is the notes log your field crew can read on the job.

There are two ways to open the Message Center:

  • Click the chat icon in the top right of Workglue, next to the + Add button.
  • Click Messages in the side menu.

Both show an unread count when you have new messages waiting. Inside the Message Center, the Job Messages tab also shows its own unread count.

Job Messages

Job Messages are conversations attached to a specific opportunity or job. They're grouped in the list by job name, and each thread shows an unread count badge on the right.

The Job Messages tab only displays jobs that have at least one Internal Messages thread you're tagged in. If a job has internal threads but you aren't a participant on any of them, that job won't appear in your list. Field Messages do not appear here because they aren't tagged to specific users.

When you create a new message from this tab, you choose between two destinations:

  • Create Job Thread posts to the job's Field Messages tab as a job-wide note. Anyone in the organization with access to the job can read it. There is no recipient list.
  • Select users for a regular thread creates a private conversation in the job's Internal Messages tab between you and the users you choose.

Once a thread or note is created, its type is locked. A Field Messages note cannot be converted to an Internal Messages thread and vice versa.

A regular thread you start from this tab is the same thread that appears under the Internal Messages tab inside that job. Anything posted in one place shows up in the other.

How to start a new job message

You can start a new message on a job in two ways from the Message Center.

From the main New Message button:

  1. Open the Message Center and select the Job Messages tab.
  2. Click New Message in the top right.
  3. In the Select Job dialog, choose the job this message belongs to from the dropdown.
  4. Choose one of the two options:
    • To post a Field Messages note, click Create Job Thread, give the note a name, type your content, and click Send Message.
    • To start an Internal Messages thread, search for or tick users from the list, click Next, type your message, and send.

From within an existing job group:

  1. Open the Message Center and select the Job Messages tab.
  2. Find the job in the list.
  3. Click New Message on the right side of that job's header.
  4. Choose Create Job Thread or select users for a regular thread, as above.

This second method skips the Select Job step because the job is already chosen for you.

Personal Messages

Personal Messages are conversations between office users that aren't attached to any job. Use them for general internal discussion such as meeting requests, attendance reports, one-off questions, or anything that doesn't belong on a specific job thread.

You can message a single user or create a group thread with multiple participants.

Each row in the list shows the participants, the most recent message preview, and the date and time of the last activity.

How to start a new personal message

  1. Open the Message Center.
  2. Select the Personal Messages tab.
  3. Click New Message in the top right.
  4. Search for a user by name, or tick the circle next to one or more users in the list. Use Select All to message every available user at once.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Type your message and send.

Reading and replying to a thread

  1. Click any thread in the list to open the conversation in the panel on the right.
  2. Type your reply in the message field at the bottom of the panel.
  3. Send.

The unread count badge on a thread is per-thread, so opening the thread clears the badge for that conversation.

Messages cannot be edited or deleted once sent.

Searching messages

Use the Search Messages... field at the top of the list to filter threads by thread name. Search works on both the Job Messages and Personal Messages tabs, and only filters within the tab you're currently viewing.

Field Messages, Internal Messages, and Personal Messages

Three message channels exist in Workglue and they're easy to mix up:

  • Personal Messages. Office-to-office, not attached to a job. Threaded chat with selected users. Lives in the Message Center.
  • Internal Messages (job). Office-to-office, attached to a job. Threaded chat with selected users. Lives inside the job under the Internal Messages tab, and also appears in the Message Center under Job Messages.
  • Field Messages (job). Visible to anyone with access to the job, including field crew. A notes log, not a private thread. Lives inside the job under the Field Messages tab. Can also be created from the Message Center using the Create Job Thread option, but is not listed afterward in the Job Messages thread list.
