Customer Types

Learn how to create and manage Customer Types in Workglue to categorize your Customer Accounts and organize your work by client type.

Customer Types let you categorize the Customer Accounts in your Workglue database, like Homeowner, Property Manager, Direct Bill, or General Contractor. The Customer Type appears in the Account Type field when creating or editing a Customer Account and can be used to filter and report on work by client category.

If your company uses the QuickBooks Online integration, Customer Types can be pulled in from QBO using the Sync QB Customer Types button.

How to access Customer Types

  1. In the left navigation, select My Account.
  2. Select the Custom Fields tab.
  3. From the Select Category dropdown, choose Customer Types.

The page displays the Customer Types table.

Customer Types table

The Customer Types table displays the following columns:

  • Customer Type Name: The name of the customer type as it appears in the Account Type dropdown on Customer Accounts.
  • Description: An optional description of the type.

Customer Types pulled from QuickBooks Online display a green QBO tag.

How to add a new Customer Type

  1. Go to the Customer Types section in Custom Fields.
  2. Select Add New Item at the bottom of the table.
  3. Enter a Customer Type Name.
  4. Enter a Description (optional).
  5. Save the new type.

How to edit a Customer Type

Customer Types created in Workglue can be edited by selecting the row to open the edit view, updating the name or description, and saving.

Customer Types pulled from QuickBooks Online display a green QBO tag and cannot be edited in Workglue. To update a QBO-sourced Customer Type, make the change in QuickBooks Online and then use the Sync QB Customer Types button to pull the update into Workglue.

How to sync Customer Types from QuickBooks Online

If your company uses the QuickBooks Online integration, you can pull your Customer Types from QBO directly into Workglue.

  1. Go to the Customer Types section in Custom Fields.
  2. Select Sync QB Customer Types in the top right.
  3. Workglue pulls the current Customer Types list from QuickBooks Online and adds any new types to the table with a green QBO tag.

Syncing adds new QBO Customer Types to Workglue but does not remove types that already exist in Workglue. If a type was deleted in QBO, you will need to delete it manually in Workglue.

How to delete a Customer Type

  1. Find the Customer Type in the table.
  2. Select the red trash icon on the right side of the row.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Deleting a Customer Type cannot be undone.
